Dottie L. Davis

Dottie L. Davis, B.S. has been a commissioned law enforcement officer with the Fort Wayne (IN) Police Department since 1981 where she serves as the Deputy Chief of Training at the Regional Public Safety Academy. She has received numerous commendations, including two Meritorious Service Citations. Dep. Chief Davis has advanced training in family violence, mental illness, supervision, internal affairs investigations, and hostage negotiations. In 2000, she was active in implementing the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) to better serve individuals in a mental health crisis with dignity and respect. She graduated from the FBI National Academy in 2003.

Davis has been a family violence trainer since 1992 and has trained thousands of law enforcement officers, prosecutors, advocates and judges throughout the U.S. and Canada. She has served as an instructor at the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, and the Regional Community Policing Institute at Fort Wayne. She has spoken at numerous conferences throughout the U.S. and Canada, including the International Association of Women Police, National College of District Attorneys Conference on Domestic Violence, Ontario Provincial Police, and Victim Crisis Assistance & Referral Services.

Dep. Chief Davis serves as an advisor for the Battered Women's Justice Project, and is the president of Davis Corporate Training, Inc., a private consulting agency. She is co-author with Diane Wetendorf on articles addressing officer-involved domestic violence. Davis also provided expert witness testimony in the landmark case of the Estate of Paula Ross v. Town of Gaston, IN civil lawsuit.

Davis graduated from Purdue University with honors receiving a Bachelor of Science, and certifications in Substance Abuse Counseling and Social Service. Additional awards and recognitions include:

  • 1998 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year - Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence
  • 2001 Jane Novak Award - Park Center, Inc. in recognition of achievements and contributions
  • 2003 National Alliance for the Mentally Ill Award for continued support of the CIT Program
  • 2004 Harlene Bartlett Award for continued commitment to victims of family violence
  • 2006 National College of District Attorneys Stephen L. VonRiesen Lecturer of Merit Award
  • 2007 Athena Award - Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce
